Burgdorf After only a few weeks recovering from the strain of his work in Stans, Pestalozzi was given permission to teach in a school in the small town of Burgdorf.

The town, built on a hill to the north of Bern, is dominated by its castle and it was in the castle itself that Pestalozzi. Pestalozzi for the second time in his literary career attracted a wide circle of readers after publishing How Gertrude Teaches her Children.
